On Tuesday (Oct. 24), Pitchfork released a tape from the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office which they believe to be a confession from XXXTentacion to domestic violence.

The tape is reportedly a conversation between the rapper and friends just before his arrest on October 8, 2016 where he is discussing his girlfriend and happiness as a whole.

“I put my source of happiness in another person, which was a mistake initially, right,” he questioned. “But she fell through on every occasion until now. Until I started fucking her up bruh. I started fucking her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down. Now she’s scared. That girl is scared for her life. Which I understand.”

The tapes also address his state of mind at the time after witnessing some traumatizing events during his childhood.

“You ever seen somebody get their tongue cut out,” he asked. “You ever seen somebody get raped? … You ever seen somebody try to kill your mom in front of you? Every night you go to sleep and you remember what you seen and you remember how it felt and you remember that horrible feeling in your soul. Nobody can comfort you. It’s something I gotta deal with.”

These tapes are recordings held by the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office in preparation for the rapper’s trial for domestic abuse. He was charged in 2016 with aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. He had pleaded not guilty at the time.

He was tragically murdered in June.
