Young Thug cannot hide from the news spotlight. As he started the week off by being denied bond alongside Atlanta rapper Gunna, the week now ends with Young Thug’s nephew charged with murder after shooting his girlfriend in the face.

Fardereen Deonta Grier, the son of Young Thug’s sister, has been indicted for the murder of his girlfriend, Destiny Fitzpatrick. Witnesses heard arguing outside of their homes prior to the shooting. One witness told police that they heard a gunshot and called the authorities once they found the victim on the ground.×675/smart/filters:quality(85)/

East Point Police found Grier crying next to Fitzpatrick’s lifeless body lying in the pool of her own blood. A chilling moment to witness, police told TMZ that Grier initially told responding officers that he was fending off two armed and masked intruders. Eventually, Young Thug’s nephew admitted to shooting his girlfriend in the face.

Behind bars alongside his nephew, Young Thug was arrested in early May for a wide range of RICO charges. The 88-page indictment states that Young Thug, Gunna, and twenty-six other people are part of a subset of Bloods street gang named Young Slime Life (Y.S.L).

Both Young Thug and Gunna were denied bond multiple times. According to The New York Times, on Tuesday (July 5) the District Attorney of Fulton County filed a motion with the court that said, “the gang has had a history of intimidating witnesses”. They also described a gang member accused of attempting to murder two Atlanta police officers in the indictment.

On Thursday (July 7) Gunna was denied bond because the judge is worried that Gunna may threaten or intimidate witnesses if released ahead of the trial. For the time being, Young Thug and Gunna must stay imprisoned until January 2023.
