A$AP Rocky is standing firm in his criminal assault case, expressing confidence in his defense. On Tuesday, he arrived at a Los Angeles courthouse as jury selection began for his trial. Rocky is facing two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, charges that carry a potential sentence of up to 24 years in prison if convicted.

Despite the stakes, Rocky has pleaded not guilty and maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings. According to independent reporter Meghann Cuniff, the rapper recently rejected a plea deal from prosecutors. The proposed deal required Rocky to plead guilty to one assault charge. In exchange, he would serve 180 days in county jail. He would also face three years of probation and a seven-year suspended prison sentence.

Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, emphasized his client’s eagerness to clear his name. “He’s eager to tell his story,” Tacopina told Rolling Stone’s Nancy Dillon earlier this month, calling the case against Rocky “fundamentally weak.” Tacopina, who has represented high-profile clients like Donald Trump, expressed confidence in Rocky’s ability to challenge the charges in court.

As reported by both Dillon and Cuniff, Rocky’s decision to reject the plea deal aligns with his consistent stance on the case. The rapper seems prepared to fight the allegations head-on, betting on his legal team’s strategy and his assertion of innocence.

The trial is moving forward with jury selection. All eyes are on Rocky and his defense. Many are eager to see how they will approach the courtroom battle ahead.
