A24 is preparing to unveil its latest drama this fall: If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, a new feature from director Mary Bronstein. The film arrives on the heels of A$AP Rocky’s appearance in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest brings together a striking ensemble that includes Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, Christian Slater, and Rocky himself. At its heart is the story of a mother battling mental illness while caring for her ailing daughter—a tightly wound narrative that folds in themes of loss, resilience, and personal reckoning. The film will open in theaters this October.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bronstein reflected on the personal roots of the project. “I found myself displaced and under immense pressure, which led to a personal unraveling,” she said. “I tried to convince myself it was a temporary situation, yet it persisted. Eventually, I took the initiative to transform this turmoil into a creative outlet, recognizing that art can offer a semblance of control over chaotic circumstances.”
A$AP Rocky Holds His Own in Spike Lee’s Latest
Rocky’s role in Bronstein’s film comes just as audiences gear up for Highest 2 Lowest, his collaboration with Spike Lee that’s set to premiere soon. During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lee spoke candidly about what Rocky brought to the screen. “Don’t underestimate A$AP. In this film, he and Denzel go head-to-head. Interestingly, before I got involved, I had always seen a resemblance between A$AP and Denzel; they could easily be father and son, adding depth to their dynamic on screen.”
Lee, who has worked with Denzel Washington on five films, noted the weight of such a pairing. “I’ve collaborated with Denzel on five films, and many actors tend to get overshadowed in his presence, given his status as one of the greatest actors of our time. However, A$AP stood his ground; they truly matched each other’s intensity.”
