Eminem steps into an unlikely role in Adam Sandler’s newly released sequel, “Happy Gilmore 2,” which debuted on Netflix last week. The rapper makes a brief but memorable appearance as the son of Donald—the infamous heckler from the original film, originally played by the late Joe Flaherty.

Speaking on The Dan Patrick Show, Sandler recounted how the surprise cameo came to life. Though he and Eminem share a friendship, Sandler said he hesitated to reach out at first. “I have immense respect for Eminem. We’re friends, but I didn’t want to intrude on his life,” he said. “People kept suggesting that Eminem would bring a hilarious touch to the role, but I was concerned about disrupting his time. He’s in Detroit, living his life, and making music.”

Eventually, Sandler made the call. “I thought, ‘Why not give Marshall a call and see if he’d be interested in joining us for a day? It could be pretty funny,’” he recalled. To his surprise, Eminem was more than open to the idea.

Their connection goes back decades. Sandler recalled first meeting Eminem at an SNL afterparty in 1999. “I remember being there with my crew while Eminem was the musical guest, alongside Dr. Dre. When Marshall walked past our table, we exchanged a knowing look. I thought, ‘This guy is pretty awesome.’ Then he recognized me as Bobby Boucher, and I responded with excitement. That was the beginning of our friendship.”

“Happy Gilmore 2” is now streaming on Netflix. The film reunites original cast members Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald while adding fresh faces like Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, and Ben Stiller. It also features cameo appearances from professional golfers—including Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler—playing exaggerated versions of themselves.
