Angel Reese spoke candidly about the challenges she’s facing as a public figure.
During an interview with Speedy Morman for “360 with Speedy”, the Chicago Sky forward shared how she perseveres.
“I think it really inspires me to continue to wake up every morning and just keep going. So many people come to me and are positive to me and say, ‘I love you, keep going,” Reese said. “You inspire me from age four to age 60 like it doesn’t matter.’ People do genuinely love me and I think of the positive before I think of the negative. It took me a little minute to get to where I am right now.”
“Early on I’m like, ‘Why do people hate me so much?.’ ‘Why are people so negative?’ But then, I look back at myself in the mirror knowing who I am and being inspired by who I am. Knowing that one person would say, ‘I wanna be like Angel Reese’ or ‘Angel Reese inspired me or touched me,’” Reese continued.
The “Chi-Barbie” also spoke about her rivalry with Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever. As two of the biggest stars of the WNBA, league ratings have been at an all-time high.
“I think it’s just competition, it’s been competition since college,” Reese explained. “I’ve been playing against Caitlin since we were probably in eighth or ninth grade. We both were really competitive in AAU. I went to Maryland, and she went to Iowa so we competed there. Then, finally being able to compete in the national championship. People don’t know the legacy of us being able to play against each other for a long time.”
In her rookie campaign, Reese proved she was a force in the “W.” She averaged 13.6 points and led the league with 13.1 rebounds per game. She was the only rookie to average a double-double.
