The singer’s homegoing ceremony will take place over two days — Friday, Mar.14, in Atlanta, GA, and Saturday, Mar. 15, in her hometown of Columbia, SC.
Along with friends and family, several celebrities and musicians, including Tyler Perry, Kirk Franklin, and Tamela Mann, are reportedly attending. In the days following the singer’s death, tributes from fans and celebrities alike poured out online. On Monday (Mar.3), Angie Stone’s family released a statement to 11Alive, recalling the Stone’s impact and legacy.
“It is with heavy hearts that the children of R&B singer Angie Stone, along with her extended family, thank you all for your love and well wishes during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement began.
The statement continues: “Angie was a role model for Black women and girls everywhere. She also championed Black men with her No. 1 hit, ‘Brotha.’ She believed in giving back to her fans and community through her foundation, Angel Stripes, the Angie Stone Foundation. She lived and died doing what she loved most—music. Her faith in God was at the core of everything she did, and she was deeply committed to sharing that belief.”
According to the Associated Press, Stone had been traveling with several others, returning to Atlanta after a performance in Alabama. Per the Alabama Highway Patrol, the vehicle (2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van) overturned on Interstate 65 at approximately 4:25 a.m. A 33-year-old Texas man driving a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck collided with the van. While the other passengers survived, Stone, unfortunately, did not.
