This week Adidas made headlines with the announcement of Beyoncé officially being signed to a “multi-layered” endorsement deal that promises signature sneakers and a re-launch of the worldwide pop superstar’s Ivy Park clothing line.
After the announcement, Beyoncé was receiving more offers from other sports apparel brands, one in particular being Reebok. Nick DePaula from ESPN appeared on the NBA program The Jump and gave the scoop that the queen herself walked out of a meeting with the latter brand due to its lack of diversity and representation.
DePaula reported, “She had a meeting at Reebok and they had a whole presentation of everything, potential products, how this could all look, and she took a step back and said, ‘Is this the team that will be working on my product,’ and somebody said, ‘Yes,’ and she said, ‘Nobody in this room reflects my background, my skin color, where I’m from, and what I want to do.’ So, she took a step back and left.”
Unfortunately for Reebok, who ironically is a subsidiary of Adidas, wasn’t able to impress the singer with its pitch.
Reebok has not responded to Complex’s request for comment at this time. Looks like Beyoncé will be the best thing they never had.
