Big Sean‘s anticipated book debut, Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace, was released on Tuesday, January 21, announcing that all its proceeds will be donated to the L.A. Wildfire Relief. The Detroit rap star announced the plan in a new clip via Instagram.

“My family’s house caught on fire. I couldn’t commit to anything except that,” he revealed. To support those affected by the Altadena and Palisades fires, Sean announced that proceeds from the book’s preorders would be donated to relief efforts.

Sean postponed several promotional events after wildfires in Los Angeles destroyed the home of his longtime partner, Jhené Aiko, and their son, Noah. The book, published by Simon & Schuster, includes a foreword by renowned self-help author and On Purpose podcast host Jay Shetty. Balancing his creative pursuits, Big Sean also dropped his latest album, Better Me Than You, in August of last year, proving his dedication to both music and personal growth.

In December 2024, Big Sean shared the inspiration behind the book came from a conversation with Jay Shetty. The talk motivated the multi-platinum artist to explore self-reflection, action, and mental resilience themes.

“I took the time over the last two years to write Go Higher,” he wrote, describing the book as a guide for anyone seeking self-improvement and clarity in their lives.

In a 2021 conversation with Michael Eric Dyson, he revealed that he once contemplated suicide and took a hiatus from his career to focus on his well-being. “I canceled everything, sought therapy, connected with God, grounded myself spiritually, and prioritized my mental health for the first time,” he said.

Big Sean continues to encourage others to embrace self-care and perseverance through his music and now his writing. His debut book offers readers his story and actionable practices to achieve purpose, peace, and personal success.
