Biggie‘s catalog may soon land under new ownership for a hefty price tag, with Primary Wave reportedly closing in on half of the late rapper’s publishing, master recordings, and publicity rights, according to a fresh report from The Hollywood Reporter on Friday (February 28).
The deal is expected to be finalized “in the next couple of weeks.” The outlet, citing “multiple sources,” reported the rap icon’s publishing catalog—encompassing compositions rather than recordings—was priced at $100 million, with master rights valued between $30 million and $50 million. Still, others close to the deal suggested the total sale would land below $100 million. The deal came to light merely a week after the passing of Biggie’s cherished mother, Violetta Wallace.
Voletta Wallace: A Matriarch’s Enduring Legacy
TMZ reported Friday (February 21) that she died at 78 in hospice care in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Later that day, Biggie’s Invisible Bully clothing brand paid tribute in a post on Instagram. “We suffered a tremendous loss today,” the post stated. “Our mother, our matriarch, the woman who dedicated herself to uplifting her son, Christopher Wallace, and preserving his legacy has passed away. It is with immense sadness that we share this news with you, and ask that you please give our family the space and time needed to grieve this monumental loss.” They added, “Thank you for your continued outpouring of love, prayers and condolences in this difficult time. In the coming days, we will share how we can all honor Ms. Wallace. Thank you for your immense support and love.”
Voletta Wallace took the helm of Biggie’s estate following his death in 1997, transforming its value from roughly $10 million at the time to more than $160 million today.
