Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter are celebrating in a big way this year, with both receiving nominations at the 56th NAACP Image Awards. The nominations were revealed on Tuesday, January 7th, and the awards will be broadcast live on February 22nd from the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena, California. This year’s theme is “Our Stories, Our Culture, Our Excellence.”

Beyoncé received three nominations for her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. She’s up for outstanding album, outstanding female artist, and outstanding soul/R&B song for her single “16 Carriages.” Meanwhile, Blue Ivy, who just turned 13 on the day the nominations were announced, earned a nod for outstanding character voiceover performance in a motion picture for her role in the Disney film Mufasa: The Lion King. This was Blue’s feature film debut, where she voiced Kiara, the daughter of King Simba (voiced by Donald Glover) and Queen Nala (reprised by Beyoncé).

The Mufasa movie premiered on December 20th as part of Beyoncé’s ongoing creative projects. It follows her collaboration with Disney on the Lion King prequel, with Blue Ivy joining the cast alongside her mother.

These nominations come after the release of Cowboy Carter, which Beyoncé announced in a surprise Super Bowl commercial. The album included singles like “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.” It has played a pivotal role in bringing attention to Black country artists. It also explores the genre’s rich roots. With both Beyoncé and Blue Ivy earning recognition, this year’s Image Awards will be extra special for the Carter family.
