Blueface’s mother, Karlissa Saffold, has stirred controversy after dismissing the idea of her son joining hundreds of incarcerated individuals battling the raging Los Angeles wildfires. Over 900 inmates have been working to slow the spread of the deadly blaze, which has left thousands homeless and claimed at least 24 lives across Southern California. Despite this critical effort, Saffold insists her son, who has been behind bars since January 2024 for a probation violation, won’t be among them.
Blueface, transferred to North Kern State Prison in September 2024, became a topic of debate during Saffold’s recent Instagram Live session. When asked if the rapper would assist in the fire relief efforts, Saffold dismissed the notion outright. “They don’t make rich n**** go fight fires in jail,” she stated, laughing. “They might make your son fight the fire though, not mine.”
Saffold further claimed Blueface is focused on “jail rehab” and fulfilling his responsibilities behind bars. When a commenter suggested that joining the fire crews could lead to a reduced sentence, she doubled down, saying, “He don’t need none of his time knocked off. We will not be taking off no time for the cause.”
Her remarks have drawn criticism, with many highlighting the bravery and sacrifice of the incarcerated firefighters. These individuals risk their lives on the front lines for a fraction of the pay professionals receive, all while working toward the possibility of reduced sentences. Meanwhile, Saffold’s dismissive tone has sparked debate over privilege and accountability, leaving many questioning whether wealth should exempt someone from contributing to such critical efforts.
