Boosie Badazz is facing a serious sentence after entering a guilty plea in a federal firearm case connected to his 2023 arrest. The Louisiana rapper appeared in a San Diego federal courtroom on Tuesday, August 26th, where he admitted to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. That offense is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The situation began in May 2023 when police pulled over a vehicle Boosie was riding in and located two guns inside. While state charges were initially brought against him and later dropped, federal prosecutors pursued the case under laws that prohibit convicted felons from having access to firearms. Boosie’s legal team previously questioned the fairness of those rules, pointing to recent Supreme Court decisions regarding nonviolent offenders and the Second Amendment, but the case moved forward regardless.
After entering his plea, Boosie spoke outside the courthouse and explained how the case has weighed on him. “I want to put it behind me,” he told CBS 8 San Diego. “I want to get it behind me and get on with my life. You know, it’s a lot of things this case has stopped me from doing, traveling all across the world, so I just want to get it over with.”
His attorney noted that Boosie has been active in his community and involved in charitable efforts, sharing her belief that the outcome could be positive. “I’m optimistic,” she stated. For now, Boosie is free on a $100,000 bond while waiting for his sentencing date in November 2025.
On social media earlier this month, Boosie confirmed his decision in his own words. “JUST ACCEPTED A PLEA FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON MY GUN CASE. I THOUGHT THIS CASE WAS OVER N I WAS GOING TO GET ON WITH MY LIFE BUT ‘GOD DONT MAKE MISTAKES’ N IM TIRED OF FIGHTING.”
