Brittany Renner and Kevin Gates have ended their brief marriage, confirming their split just 52 days after tying the knot. The Basketball Wives star revealed in a recent interview on June 7th that she and the rapper got married on April 6th but finalized their divorce on May 28th, less than two months later.
Brittany explained the significance of a 90-day waiting period in Islam, saying, “There is a 90-day waiting period in Islam where it’s basically—you have 90 days to see if you’re pregnant, then he would be responsible. And then also in those 90 days it’s for reconciliation, because Allah wants you to stay married. During those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically.”
Though their marriage was short, Brittany said she has no regrets. “I followed my heart,” she shared. “And that’s more than anyone can say in this world. I don’t think anybody gets married to not stay married. So, I think my biggest thing for me is just a nice 90 day reset. Focusing on myself and pouring into myself.” She added, “I don’t feel like it’s a sucky situation… Because what is meant to be is always gonna be.”
Brittany, 33, who shares her 4-year-old son, P.J. Washington III, with ex P.J. Washington, fueled engagement rumors in May after showing off a diamond ring during the Basketball Wives season 11 premiere. This came just a month after making their relationship Instagram official. She further stirred speculation by calling Kevin her “huzband” in a now-deleted Instagram post from the Basketball Wives season 12 premiere party.
Having recently converted to Islam, Brittany praised Kevin’s support during this new chapter. In a People interview published May 5th, she said, “All I can say is, is that I’m with the person that I quite literally dreamed of… He’s just the most beautiful person inside and out that I’ve ever met.”
