Brittney Griner has a story to tell.

The 32-year-old basketball player plans on dropping a memoir, detailing her time in a Russian prison. Vibe reports it’ll be released sometime next year, from the publishing house, Alfred A. Knopf.

In an Instagram post, Brittney said, “I arrived in Moscow to rejoin the UMMC Ekaterinburg basketball team and was immediately detained at the airport. That day [in Feb. 2022] was the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life which only now am I ready to share.” It continues,

“The primary reason I traveled back to Russia for work that day was because I wanted to make my wife, family, and teammates proud. After an incredibly challenging 10 months in detainment, I am grateful to have been rescued and to be home. Readers will hear my story and understand why I’m so thankful for the outpouring of support from people across the world.”

Brittney was detained in Russia for nearly one year after pleading guilty to drug charges. In a drawn-out, dramatic, high-profile prisoner exchange, Brittney returned home in December 2022.

In a social media post, Brittney said, “it feels so good to be home! The last 10 months have been a battle at every turn. I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your help.”

Earlier this year, Brittney resigned with the Phoenix Mercury for one year according to a report. AP points out that Brittney last played for the Mercury in 2021 and helped the team reach the WNBA Finals. She was drafted in 2013 by Mercury and has played with them for nine seasons.
