Cardi B. has some good news to end 2020 with!
According to reports, Cardi settled the legal dispute between her and her former manager, Shaft. Back in 2018, Shaft sued her for $10 million, claiming he discovered her but once she blew up, she left him in the dust.
Shaft was also claiming his team wrote her first mega-hit, “Bodak Yellow,” and he wanted credit for putting Cardi on Love and Hip Hop. Cardi ended up countersuing for $15 million, saying that her contract was unfair and one-sided. She also mentioned Shaft was trying to be greedy. TMZ reports he wanted to collect a 20% commission at first and then 50% off her Sony publishing deal later. Cardi also alleges Shaft was trying to control everything in her life, including who she could date, like Offset.
According to court documents obtained by All Hip Hop, the case was dismissed with prejudice, which means neither party can refile about the same grievance again. They also agreed to cover their own attorneys’ fees, the amount of the legal fees isn’t known.
Cardi took to social media to share her excitement she said, “feels good to be free.”
