Netflix’s You enlisted Cardi B to help unveil the trailer for its fifth and final season.

Cardi B and Penn Badgley’s Viral ‘You’ Connection

In 2021, Cardi B was thrilled to learn that Penn Badgley admired her work, a moment that quickly sparked a playful exchange as they swapped Twitter avatars.

“I really appreciate people who have this second-nature relationship to [social media],” he remarked while promoting You‘s third season. “When you do have something meaningful and substantive to post, then I think it really comes through and people appreciate it all the more.” “Cardi B is a great example of that,” he added. “She has such an authentic relationship. To me, it’s this incredibly nuanced place to be and despite what many might judge as antics, I feel like she has an incredibly authentic relationship to that — and that’s why people like her so much.”

A few weeks later, Cardi unwrapped an eerie surprise from her new acquaintance—a hat emblazoned with “Hello, You…” and a note signed in the name of Badgley’s on-screen predator, Joe Goldberg. “My stalking and killing may make me a certified freak, seven days a week, but it also brought me to… you,” Badgley stated. “Cardi B, you have a way with social media. You’re meaningful. Substantive. I just like you. You’re authentic and nuanced…just as you are with your music.”

Badgley wrapped up his letter with a playful nod, wishing Cardi well in her new hat and jokingly hoping she wouldn’t vanish with it. Cardi kept the humor going on Twitter, teasing fans by wondering how Joe Goldberg had tracked down her new address. Supporters launched a Change.org petition urging Cardi’s spot on season four, but the effort never gained traction.
