Cardi B made her long-awaited debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series Monday, but it was a pointed lyrical alteration that sparked the most conversation among fans and industry peers.
“look like Kelly..”
During a performance of her track “ErrTime,” the Bronx native replaced a reference to fellow rapper Latto with a shoutout to Destiny’s Child alumna Kelly Rowland. The original lyric, “Bad yellow btch, look like Latto in this mothafcka,” was swapped for “Bad brown btch, she look like Kelly in this mothafcka.”
The change was quickly embraced by Rowland, who shared a clip of the performance on her Instagram Stories with the caption, “Get it Cardi!!!” Cardi B later reciprocated the affection, reposting the clip with a message stating, “I love youuuu!!!” Backed by a live band led by acclaimed musical director Adam Blackstone, Cardi B delivered an eight-song set that spanned her career. In addition to tracks from her recent project “Am I The Drama?”, she performed staples like “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It.”
The tension between the two rappers dates back to September 2025, shortly after they collaborated on an “ErrTime” remix. The relationship soured following a leaked phone conversation in which Cardi B was heard making disparaging remarks about Latto while discussing a separate feud with Ice Spice. Although Cardi B issued a public apology shortly after the leak, the damage appeared lasting.
Latto addressed the situation on her May 2026 album “Big Mama” with the track “Gimme Dat.” During a subsequent interview, Latto said the insult was particularly painful because she had recorded her remix verse while pregnant to support Cardi B’s album launch. While Latto expressed disappointment during that interview, she did not entirely rule out a future reconciliation.
This is not the first time Cardi B has edited the song during a live appearance. She previously removed Latto’s name during a performance at the Essence Festival in July. However, the specific substitution of Rowland’s name at the Tiny Desk performance suggests a permanent shift in the song’s live arrangement as the “WAP” rapper continues to distance herself from the former collaboration.
