The late Kobe Bryant will be the subject of a new docuseries in January on CNN.

According to Bleacher Report, “Kobe: The Making of a Legend”  will spotlight “the early foundation of Bryant’s career by providing insight into his childhood and teenage years.

The series will include interviews with Bryant’s friends and teammates from Italy. When Kobe was six years old, his father, former NBA forward Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, played professional basketball with a team in Rieti.

Bryant’s coaches, teachers, and teammates will reflect on his time at Lower Merion High School, in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He became one of the top high school players in the country winning the Pennsylvania Player of the Year award as a junior. Following his senior campaign, he entered the 1996 NBA draft.

The doc features Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks and Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady and Sheryl Swoopes.

Also, Gary Vitti, a long-time trainer who worked with Bryant during each of his 20 seasons with the team is a part of the Lakers.

Eric Johnson, Executive Producer for CNN Original Series, stated the importance of documenting Bryant’s legacy.

“Five years after his passing, we are honored to share the story of Kobe Bryant. Arguably, one of the greatest and most competitive professional athletes of all time,” Johnson said. We’re proud to present a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Kobe and the complicated journey that shaped his legacy.”

Haired as one of the greatest players of all time, Bryant won five NBA championships and was an 18-time All-Star. He was a 15-time member of the All-NBA Team and a 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team. Also, he was the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), and a two-time NBA Finals MVP.

Tragically, Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and nine other people died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame posthumously inducted Bryant in 2020.

In 2021, Bryant was also named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
