Coi Leray is starting a new chapter in her career with a fresh label deal and a highly anticipated EP. After four years under Universal Music Group, the rapper and singer has officially signed with Epic Records. In an exclusive with The Hollywood Reporter, Leray shared her excitement about the move, emphasizing how much she values the label’s support. “Epic is one of those labels who understands me as an artist and as a person, and I’m super appreciative of that,” she said. “They support me rather than try to tell me what to do, and that’s all an artist can ask for when it comes to signing with a major label.”
Before joining Epic, Leray released music through Republic Records and Island Records, both under Universal Music Group. Her breakthrough 2023 hit, Players, earned her a platinum certification and a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance. She also received a Best Pop Dance Recording nomination for her collaboration with David Guetta and Anne-Marie on Baby Don’t Hurt.
Now, she’s gearing up to release What Happened to Forever, a five-track EP dropping at midnight on February 12. Described as deeply personal, the project is inspired by real-life experiences and features production from Tommy Brown, CashMoney AP, ItsnotHarold, and Johnny Goldstein. Leray reflected on the emotional depth of the EP, saying, “I’m still healing right? So it’s something I don’t want to speak about, but I guess I can say I let the music speak for me. [The] best way I can vent is through the music.”
Epic Records, home to stars like Travis Scott and Tyla, is fully backing her vision. As she steps into this next phase, Leray continues proving that, just like she raps, “girls is players too.”
