A California judge has postponed a key evidentiary hearing in the criminal case against recording artist D4vd, granting a defense request for additional time as prosecutors pursue charges that include capital murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 and mutilation of human remains.
Judge Charlaine Olmedo approved the defense motion to continue a multi-day hearing that had been scheduled to begin June 29. The proceeding will now start July 21.
The hearing is expected to address whether prosecutors have presented sufficient evidence for the case to proceed toward trial. The ruling provides both parties additional time to review discovery materials, prepare legal arguments and address evidentiary issues before the court.
D4vd, who has been indicted in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas, has denied wrongdoing and remains presumed innocent. Prosecutors allege the charges stem from the teenager’s death and subsequent efforts to conceal evidence.
D4vd’s Key Hearing Rescheduled To July 21
The case has attracted significant public attention since investigators reportedly discovered human remains inside a vehicle linked to the musician. Law enforcement officials later arrested and charged him following a lengthy investigation.
Court filings indicate that the parties continue to dispute several factual and legal issues central to the prosecution’s case. Among the allegations, prosecutors contend investigators recovered evidence related to child sexual abuse material and claim D4vd maintained contact with the alleged victim before her death.
Defense attorneys are expected to challenge the admissibility and sufficiency of that evidence during future proceedings.
The July hearing could prove pivotal. Prosecutors will seek to establish that the evidence supports moving the matter forward, while defense counsel will likely argue that the state’s case contains deficiencies warranting dismissal or further review.
If Judge Olmedo determines the prosecution has met its burden at this stage, the case will advance toward trial. Scheduling matters, discovery disputes and evidentiary motions would then be addressed in subsequent hearings.
No findings regarding guilt or innocence have been made. The allegations against D4vd remain unproven. Any determination of criminal liability will depend on evidence presented during future court proceedings.
