Prosecutors allege that rising music artist D4vd fatally stabbed a 14-year-old girl before dismembering her body with a chainsaw in a case that has shocked the public and drawn national attention.
The musician, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including first-degree murder and mutilation of human remains.
Authorities say the victim, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, died from “multiple penetrating injuries,” according to a medical examiner’s report that ruled her death a homicide.
Allegations outlined in court filings
According to prosecutors, Burke killed the teen in April 2025 after she threatened to expose what authorities describe as an illegal sexual relationship.
Court documents allege he stabbed the girl multiple times during an argument. Prosecutors say he then used chainsaws to dismember her body inside his garage.
Investigators claim Burke attempted to conceal the crime by placing the remains in bags and storing them in a Tesla registered in his name.
The vehicle was later impounded, and the remains were discovered months later in September 2025.
Prosecutors also allege that DNA evidence linked the victim to Burke’s residence, including traces found in a garage area.
In a court brief, authorities described the killing as an effort to silence the victim. One filing stated she had threatened to reveal the relationship and “ruin his career.”
Investigation and legal proceedings
Burke, 21, was arrested in 2026 following a lengthy investigation. He has since entered a not guilty plea and remains in custody.
Prosecutors have charged him with several counts, including murder, sexual abuse of a minor and mutilation.
Officials say additional evidence includes digital communications and forensic findings that they believe demonstrate an ongoing relationship between Burke and the victim.
Authorities also allege Burke took steps to dispose of evidence, including discarding personal items belonging to the teen.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 26, where a judge will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
If convicted, Burke could face life in prison or potentially the death penalty.
