Deion Sanders, now known as Coach Prime, has confirmed he was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer, though his medical team now considers him cured. Sanders made the announcement Monday during a press conference, addressing the illness publicly for the first time. TMZ broke the news on Monday.

The revelation adds a new chapter to Sanders’ long battle with serious health complications. Earlier this year, he hinted at undisclosed medical issues during an appearance on former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel’s podcast. At the time, Sanders called the situation “on a whole ’nother level” but did not reveal details.

In June, Sanders missed several Colorado football camps, citing health-related absences without explanation. During Big 12 Media Days in July, he reassured reporters that everything was “OK,” offering no further information. Monday’s disclosure clarified the reason behind his recent absence and prior vague remarks.

Bladder cancer, while often treatable when caught early, can be aggressive if left unchecked. Sanders said doctors detected the cancer early and responded quickly.

He credited his medical team with guiding him through the process and expressed gratitude for their work. He confirmed he is now cancer-free and remains focused on coaching.

Sanders has faced a series of serious medical setbacks in recent years. In 2022 and 2023, he underwent surgeries on his leg and foot that resulted in the amputation of two toes. Despite limited mobility, he remained active on the sidelines, coaching from a chair while continuing to lead the Buffaloes.

Since becoming Colorado’s head coach in 2023, Sanders has transformed the program’s national profile. His leadership has brought both on-field results and off-field attention, creating a cultural shift within the team. Under his guidance, the Buffaloes have drawn national media coverage and sparked renewed interest in college football in Boulder.

Though Monday’s announcement was deeply personal, Sanders framed it as a testament to perseverance. He emphasized the importance of early detection and maintaining a strong support system. The coach said he is committed to moving forward with the same determination that defined his athletic career.

With the 2025 season approaching, Sanders remains at the helm, focused on guiding the Buffaloes through a new chapter. His health battle, now public, adds another layer to a legacy built on resilience, leadership, and unflinching drive.
