Diddy remains in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) as he prepares for a legal battle over charges related to alleged sex trafficking and racketeering. With his trial approaching, there’s already tension between his legal team and federal prosecutors regarding jury selection.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, prosecutors want jury selection to begin on April 21st, while Diddy’s lawyers are pushing for a May 5th start to allow more time to prepare his defense. His team is also requesting a larger-than-usual jury pool of 600 people, all of whom they want to complete written questionnaires. However, the exact questions they plan to ask remain unclear.
Federal prosecutors, on the other hand, are advocating for a more limited approach, suggesting that the questionnaire should only address potential scheduling conflicts. Additionally, Diddy’s legal team is requesting a sequestered jury selection process, meaning jurors would be questioned individually rather than in a group setting.
The Bad Boy mogul was arrested last September on serious federal charges, and his trial is currently set for May. If convicted, he could face a significant prison sentence, making this case a high-stakes legal fight.
Beyond the criminal case, Diddy has been dealing with multiple lawsuits over the past year, with individuals accusing him of sexual assault and other misconduct. While he denies these allegations, he did admit to the 2016 assault of his ex-girlfriend Cassie, which was caught on hotel security footage and surfaced last year.
Earlier this week, his legal team accused CNN of destroying the only full copy of that security footage and altering the version that was made public. CNN has strongly denied any tampering with the evidence.
