Sean “Diddy” Combs has been placed on suicide watch as he awaits federal trial for sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The mogul is detained in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn following his arrest on Monday (September 16). The 54-year-old has been denied bond twice.
There have been no indications or concerns that Diddy is suicidal. It is for preventive measures since Combs is in shock and his mental state is unclear, according to People. In an interview with TMZ, celebrity prison coach John Fuller said that there is a legitimate concern about future self-harm during the trial.
Fuller to TMZ: “Diddy is likely used to getting his way given his A-list status … however, those days are over, at least for now — and that may become complicated for him to process.”
U.S. Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections defines suicide watch as “supervision of suicidal inmates who require frequent observation.” Combs attorneys told the media that their client cooperated throughout the investigation and arrest.
His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, informed the press that the mogul is “ready” and “focused” for trial. They hope to be issued a trial date sooner rather than later as the “fight continues.” Before the arrest, Combs was spotted in Washington Square Park in high spirits as he took photos with fans.
TMZ reports that the mogul is being held in the Special Housing Unit, away from the general population. His attorney called the conditions at MDC “inhumane.” Other celebrities who were once detained at the MDC Brooklyn include R&B singer R. Kelly.
Diddy pled “not guilty” to the charges on Tuesday (September 17). In California, the mogul’s daughters have been cared for by family members while his sons have been involved in every aspect of the case.
A trial date has not been set at this time.
