DJ Premier surprises fans with a business venture deeply rooted in his passion.

On Monday (May 6), Preemo announced via Instagram that he and his business partner, Ian Schwartzman, have launched a digital record store.

“NEW BUSINESS ALERT: My manager and business partner @ianschwartzman and I created our own digital record store. My passion for digging, collectibles, vinyls, test presses, tapes, cd’s and merchandise inspired us to bring this to life,” Premier began, briefly touching on his passion project.

But that’s not all! Preemo went on to reveal that there’s a whole lot more in store, including original tunes.

“This isn’t just for me and our TTT releases either, it’s bigger and will be the home for original music collectibles for all my peers too.”

Last month, DJ Premier teamed up with longtime collaborator Nas for one of the most highly anticipated reunions of the year, hinting at the possibility of a joint album in the near future.

Taking to socials, the Queensbridge rap legend posted a throwback photo featuring himself with Preemo. Another shot showed the dynamic duo in the now, with skyscrapers looming in the background — later revealed to be the epic cover art for their latest single.

“Then v.s Now. What if…” Nas captioned the post.

Less than 24 hours later, DJ Premier made his return to Instagram, announcing that their latest single, “Define My Name,” would release at midnight. Coincidentally, this also marked the 30th anniversary of Nas’ seminal debut album, Illmatic.

Expanding on the success and excitement generated by the single release, Nas announced that he’s taking his Illmatic anniversary celebration across the pond.

Kicking off in October, the legendary MC is set to hit up four UK cities, including a stop at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall along with stops in Manchester, Wolverhampton, and Edinburgh in November.
