Doechii is celebrating big wins this week with a bold new verse on the remix of “Timeless” by The Weeknd and Playboi Carti. The rising star opens the track with confident bars, reflecting on the success of her breakout project Alligator Bites Never Heal. “My brand grossin’ numbers you’ll never believe / It’s a billi’ on the streams,” she raps. Doechii goes on to say, “Top Dawg cashin’ out Doechii stock (Clock that) / Pull up to the pgLang on the dot (On the dot) / Now I got a timeshare wrist watch (Wrist watch) / I been that girl since hopscotch, I’m too legit.”
The remix “Timeless” dropped just as Doechii made her first appearance at the Met Gala. Before hitting the red carpet, she was spotted leaving The Mark Hotel. She was surrounded by umbrellas and a privacy screen to keep her outfit hidden. In a video, she could be heard telling her team, “Give me another umbrella, now. I need more fucking umbrellas!” The clip stirred up backlash online, with some accusing her of mistreating her assistants.
She addressed the criticism in a TikTok post, calling the experience overwhelming but unforgettable. “All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside),” she said. “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas.”
During her Billboard Women in Music speech, Doechii pushed back against industry plant rumors. She reflected on how far she’s come since winning the Rising Star award two years ago and reminded the crowd, “We are the creatives, we are the executives and we are the innovators.” She closed with a powerful line, saying, “It is not an agenda, it’s God.”
