Drake turned up the excitement for a lookalike contest in his hometown of Toronto by adding $10,000 to the prize pool. The event, held on Saturday, December 14th, at Casuals Cakery, saw fans dressing as various eras of the rapper in hopes of taking home the grand prize. When Drake heard about the contest, he messaged the organizer to sweeten the deal, saying, “I’m adding 10 bands to the lookalike contest as the main prize.”
Makayla Chambers ultimately claimed the top spot after donning a thick beard and two braids to mirror Drake’s look from earlier this fall. A familiar face came in second—a man who had gone viral earlier this year for his hilarious impersonations of Drizzy, even catching the rapper’s attention back then. Sharing footage from the event on his Instagram Story, Drake expressed his love for Toronto with laughing emojis, writing, “I love this city.”
In other news, Drake triumphed at the Billboard Music Awards, winning three major categories. He defeated Kendrick Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, and Travis Scott to win Top Rap Artist. His album For All the Dogs also took home the award for Top Rap Album, beating projects from 21 Savage, Nicki Minaj, Rod Wave, and more. Drake’s dominance continued as he snagged Top Rap Male Artist, edging out Lamar and Scott.
Kendrick Lamar didn’t leave empty-handed, though. His Drake diss track “Not Like Us” won Top Rap Song, adding another layer to their ongoing “20 v. 1” rivalry that has captivated fans over the past year.
