Hip-hop history is filled with references to the past beef between Drake and Ludacris. At his 38th birthday in Houston on Thursday night (Oct. 24), Drake remembered the feud as the DJ played Luda’s hit song “Pimpin’ All Over The World.” “I used to beef with Ludacris because he dated my first girlfriend,” Drake said to the crowd.

As he reminisced, he shouted out the Atlanta entertainer, saying, “I swear to God, no cap I used to have beef with Ludacris. Shout out to Ludacris, though.”

In 2014, Champagne Papi rapped about his girlfriend at the time, asking to listen to Luda over his music on “How About Now” from the 6 God album. He raps this on the song:

“I had no money left from actin’, I was focused on the music / I used to always try and burn you CDs of my new shit / You be like “who’s this?” I be like “me, girl” / You be like “oh, word, true shit?”/ Then ask if we could listen to Ludacris / Them car rides made me feel like I was losin’ it / Yeah, made me feel I ain’t have it like that.”

Luda addressed the beef with a similar origin story including the song in 2015 in a radio interview. “Me and Drake had our thing but he came to me and apologized like a man,” said Luda. “…It’s a little true story behind that and his girl at the time with all due respect was probably doing a little bit more than that, but it’s a true story and I think that’s why he said that. You know people can respect this man for being very honest on records… It was a chick in Toronto at the time and at the time I didn’t know that she was, you know, I guess I didn’t know what was going on. Absolutely, I didn’t know. That’s really what it comes down to.”

The beef has been laid to rest since the 2017 Billboard Awards when Ludacris presented Drake with an award, and Drizzy addressed their issues. In the speech, 6 God told Luda,  “I want to say, Ludacris, I know we haven’t always seen eye to eye, but I’ve always been a big fan of yours. I got a lot of love for you. I want to let you know that face-to-face while I’m still here.”

Drizzy’s 2000s-themed birthday celebration Thursday night included unreleased music and a dance battle with Omarion.
