While many across the globe were getting ready for Super Bowl LIX,  Drake and his legal team, were preparing to issue a statement in connection with the lawsuit the rapper filed against Universal Music Group.

According to the New York Times, Drizzy had his attorneys send the statement a few hours before Kendrick Lamar took the stage for his highly anticipated halftime show.

The statement criticized UMG’s stance on the issue and claims to have damaging evidence against the label.

“UMG is masquerading as a champion of artistic freedom by calling its actions merely ‘entertainment’, but there is nothing entertaining about pedophilia or child abuse in the real world,” the statement read.

“We are confident that the evidence we will ultimately present at trial—including information we’ve already learned and continue to receive since filing the lawsuit—will expose UMG’s gross prioritization of its own corporate profits and executive bonuses over its exclusively signed artists’ well-being and the truth,” the statement continued.

Back in January, Drake sued his label for defamation, claiming they conspired to promote Kendrick’s record-breaking diss song “Not Like Us.” Before the actual lawsuit, Drake filed two pre-action suits in November 2024 arguing that playlist and bots set up by the label drove the song’s popularity.

Although legal actions have been filed Lamar has not been named as a defendant in the lawsuits.. The Compton MC is considered one of the most influential hip-hop artists of his generation having won 22 Grammy Awards and the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music.

According to Forbes, Kendrick’s epic halftime show at Super Bowl LIX was seen by more than 113 million viewers.

With the world watching, Kendrick performed “Not Like Us” as the crowd in the Caesars Superdome yelled “A Minor.”
