Dwyane Wade claps back at critics over his statue.
We previously reported that the Miami Heat former player was honored with a statue outside the Kaseya Center in Miami. Wade is the first Heat player to receive a statue.
The ceremony took place on Sunday (October 27), “that’s crazy. I can’t believe that. Who’s that guy?” Wade said following the unveiling. Which was a question many social media users asked- as many didn’t see the resemblance of him and the statue.
“This statue is so bad it’s making me forget what Dwayne Wade actually looks like. The longer I look, the harder it is for me to picture his real face,” commented one fan on the statue. “They really turned D Wade statue into Morpheus from the Matrix” said another.
Wade caught wind of the criticism and responded, “the social media world is about opinions… Please talk more about us. Talk more about a statue, come on down to see it, take some photos, send some memes. We don’t care.”
He continued: “If I wanted it to look like me, I’d just stand outside the arena and y’all can take photos.”
Not to toot his own horn, he questioned, “I don’t know a lot of people with a statue. Do you?”
Despite the criticism, Wade expresses his deep gratitude to the Heat organization for the honor. “I wanted to feel this. Life goes by so fast, and it’s very rare that we get to feel things, because we’re always off to the next thing. … I wanted to feel this, man. I wanted to look at it.”
