Eminem could soon be adding WNBA team owner to his résumé. TMZ Sports reports that the rap icon is in early talks to join a bid for a Detroit expansion team.
A spokesperson for Eminem confirmed that while he hasn’t officially signed on yet, he’s showing strong interest in the opportunity. Detroit has already submitted its proposal, with notable figures like Jared Goff, Grant Hill, and Chris Webber leading the charge to bring the league back to the city.
Right now, the WNBA has 13 teams, but that will grow to 15 in 2026 when Portland and Toronto join. By 2028, at least one more team will be added, and Detroit is in the running. However, it’s facing stiff competition from Austin, Charlotte, Cleveland, Houston, and Kansas City, which has the backing of Patrick Mahomes.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert is expected to make a decision within the next year. If Eminem officially joins the bid, it could give Detroit a major edge in securing a team.
