Miami Gardens marked a major milestone Tuesday as Flo Rida broke ground on the city’s first entirely Black-owned shopping plaza.

Standing beside Councilman Reggie Leon, the rapper and entrepreneur unveiled plans for the renovated Cloverleaf Shopping Plaza—a project rooted in community pride and economic self-determination.

Located at 230 NW 183rd Street, the 27,813-square-foot plaza sits just blocks from where Flo Rida, born Tramar Dillard, grew up. He purchased the property in 2023 for $10 million through his company, Strong Arm Management. Already home to local favorites like Cloverleaf Beauty Supply, Creole Kitchen, Boost Mobile, and Top Notch Cigars, the plaza will serve as a new cultural hub for Black-owned businesses in Miami Gardens.

The groundbreaking drew residents, city officials, and entrepreneurs who gathered to celebrate the vision. Mayor Rodney Harris praised the development, calling it “a partnership that creates jobs, opportunities, and proof that dreams can be realized.” The moment symbolized a turning point for a city often overlooked in larger economic conversations.

Flo Rida’s mission goes beyond property ownership. It reflects a broader trend of artists using their influence to invest in underserved communities. For him, this project is personal—an effort to return resources, opportunity, and visibility to the city that raised him.

Also present was Flo Rida’s longtime friend and business partner, Lee “Freezy” Prince, who helped finance the plaza’s purchase. Their bond, forged at Carol City Middle and High Schools, is now the foundation of a project that aims to build generational wealth.

“We started this together, and we never stopped giving back,” said Flo Rida.

The Cloverleaf Shopping Plaza stands not only as a business venture, but as a symbol of restoration, pride, and possibility for Miami Gardens.
