Several employees at Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Los Angeles have staged a protest claiming they haven’t been compensated for several weeks, the Daily Mail reports. Also, they claim that the location is being shut down because the rent hasn’t been paid.

The employees are also alleging that Mayweather Boxing + Fitness of violating California Labor Code.

During the demonstration, employees held signs that read “modern-day slavery” and “The $ Team has no $.”

“We’re out here just letting everybody know that they have not been treating us right,” said one of the employees.

“Even if you work for a different company and you ain’t getting paid, you’re scared to show up and say something because you know how businesses do,” the employee continued. “They silence you and they fire you because everything’s “at will.”

California Labor Code 210 states that penalties are imposed on employers “who fail to pay employees on time.” The penalty includes fines of $100 and $200 for first and second-time violations.

Additionally, if employers don’t compensate the employees after 30 days,  employees are entitled to “a full day’s wages at their regular rate for each day they go without payment.” Also,  they can file a lawsuit against the employers.

Some of the fitness workers say they are not aware if Mayweather knows about their complaints.

“Who knows if he’s aware or not? We don’t,” one worker said. “I was told that we can’t tell him and I can’t tell him that our studio’s closing. He was here two weeks ago. We’ve been silenced.”

Although Mayweather has earned more than $1.2 Billion from boxing, this is not his business enterprise that has had financial trouble. In May, a Mayweather Boxing + Fitness Club in Elk Grove CA  shut down after its landlord sued for missing  $30,000 in rent payments.
