Freddie Gibbs might have some words for J. Cole after the Dreamville rapper dropped his latest track.
Cole premiered cLOUDs on his Algorithm blog Thursday (February 20), delivering sharp bars about his dominance. “I charter unseen territories in order/To push it farther than you n****s had ever thought of/I caught a lotta murder charges, turned artists/To martyrs, when I rock, thot turns to goddess,” he raps.
Shortly after its release, Gibbs responded with a yawn emoji on X, then took things further on Instagram. Using his burner account, youonlydie0nce, he wrote, “N-ggaz be rapping about how they kill rappers and kill they careers and blah blah blah but he backing outta rap beefs,” adding laughing, thinking, and yawn emojis.
Fans quickly speculated he was calling out Cole for stepping away from his battle with Kendrick Lamar. However, nothing has been confirmed. Gibbs has praised Cole before—though that was before the Kendrick situation. In 2020, he shared a video showing off Cole’s RS-Dreamer sneakers, hyping their design before putting them to the test.
“Hell yeah, Cole!” he shouted, with Problem looking on. “I ain’t even mad at ya. This muthafucka hard, bro. I’ma ball you in your own shit. Come get this work, nigga!” Moments later, he landed a dunk in Cole’s PUMA kicks, celebrating the shot.
Meanwhile, Gibbs has also taken aim at Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, accusing them of copying his style with their album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U.
The title bears a striking resemblance to Gibbs’ 2022 album $oul $old $eparately, which he often shortens to $$$. Adding fuel to the fire, Drizzy and PND’s project features cartoon bunnies on the back cover—a signature Gibbs has used for years with his “Big Rabbit” mascot.
Freddie Gibbs didn’t let it slide. “Damn, they even stole the rabbits too. I’m flattered,” he posted on X, just as Drake and PND revealed their tracklist. He then used the moment to plug his own work, writing, “$$$4u [heart emoji]” while resharing a spoof commercial from 2022 promoting $oul $old $eparately.
Fans quickly backed Gibbs, with many calling out Drake and PND for allegedly biting his style. He made sure their reactions didn’t go unnoticed, retweeting several posts to drive his point home.
