G-Dep, Former Bad Boy Artist, Released From Prison

G-Dep

Trevell Gerald Coleman, better known as G-Dep, was the former Bad Boy recording artist with the 2000s hit “Special Delivery,” was released from prison on Thursday (April 4) after serving 14 years for fatally shooting a man multiple times during a robbery in 1993. The 49-year-old New Yorker was among 13 inmates granted clemency by New York Governor Kathy Hochul

The famed rapper shared the video of his release from Fishkill Correctional Facility on Instagram. He also shared a video of him embracing his new freedom at IHOP.

G-Dep turned himself into authorities in 2010 and was sentenced to 15 years to life by the court in 2012. Before the surrender, the case was considered a 20-year-old cold case until the rap star walked into a Harlem precinct and confessed. The Deputy was convicted of murder in the second degree.

G-Dep signed with Bad Boy Records in 1998 and released his debut album, Child of the Ghetto, in 2001. The album featured hit songs “Let’s Get It,” “Danger Zone,” and “Special Delivery.”

Dep ushered in a new regime of Bad Boy artists in the early 2000s to restore the label’s popularity after Diddy was acquitted in his infamous 1999 gun possession case. The roster included R&B singer Mario Winans, rapper Mark Curry, R&B group Dream, rapper Black Rob, and rapper Kain.

Welcome Home, G-Dep.
