After a turbulent stretch that tested both his public image and professional alliances, Gunna is moving forward—on his own terms. The Atlanta rapper has announced his sixth studio album, The Last Wun, due out August 8. The project follows his earlier 2024 release, One of Wun, and will serve as his final album under the YSL label.

Gunna’s path to this moment has been anything but linear. In 2022, he was arrested in connection with a sweeping RICO indictment targeting Young Stoner Life Records. Though he spent several months behind bars, he later accepted a plea deal—a move that prompted a flurry of speculation about whether he had cooperated with authorities, particularly regarding his co-defendant Young Thug.

Despite Gunna’s repeated denials, the perception has lingered. Tensions with Thug, once a close collaborator, have remained visible in the public eye.

Still, Gunna is pushing forward. He unveiled The Last Wun via social media, revealing cover art and a 25-track rollout, with few other details. Fans quickly lit up comment sections, many already calling the release an early candidate for “album of the year.” The announcement positions Gunna to close a chapter with YSL while signaling creative independence ahead.

In a recent interview with Uproxx, Gunna spoke candidly about the process behind the new album. “It’s not a theme or a concept,” he said. “When I create, I go with what I feel.” He added that the meaning behind his work often emerges after the music is made: “Titles and themes come through experiences in life.” As of now, he hasn’t confirmed any featured guests or a tracklist, though fans have already begun speculating.

The announcement also arrives in the shadow of a cryptic message from Young Thug, who recently posted to social media: “If u a rapper and u a rat, u gotta just go gospel twin.” While the message didn’t name names, many read it as a direct shot at Gunna. Meanwhile, Thug is working on his own upcoming project, UY Scuti, which remains without a confirmed release date.
