Jamie Foxx is opening up about his decision to avoid certain viral interview platforms as he prepares for a major career comeback following a significant health scare.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the multitalented entertainer specifically addressed why he has no plans to appear on Shannon Sharpe’s popular podcast, “Club Shay Shay.” Foxx explained that the current digital landscape often rewards controversy over substance.

He suggested that the pressure to go viral can lead guests to make inflammatory statements they might later regret. The actor’s comments come at a pivotal moment as he promotes his new comedy special, “Take Care Of Yourself,” which is scheduled to premiere Wednesday on Hulu and Disney+. “It seems like you get in trouble,” Foxx said regarding the podcast.

“It seems like if you don’t say something really crazy, you can’t really affect the algorithm.” The 56-year-old performer noted that he has observed the fallout from other high-profile interviews on the platform, including the explosive appearance by Katt Williams earlier this year. Foxx indicated that he prefers to maintain his privacy and professional integrity rather than chasing internet engagement through shock value. Beyond his interview preferences, Foxx also discussed his boundaries within the world of comedy.

He specifically criticized a controversial joke about George Floyd made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during “The Roast of Kevin Hart” on Netflix. Foxx said he “didn’t like” the material at all, noting that such moments influenced what he chose to keep or cut from his own upcoming stand-up special. This new chapter marks a triumphant return for Foxx, who spent much of the last two years recovering from an undisclosed medical emergency.

The actor has slowly returned to the public eye, using his platform to discuss aging, his recovery journey and the evolution of his career. “Take Care Of Yourself” represents Foxx’s first major stand-up project in years.

Fans can expect a more reflective side of the comedian when the special debuts on Oct. 7.
