Jamie Foxx’s return to film in Back In Action marks his first role since suffering the medical emergence. According to Variety, the film is a commercial success with more than 46.8 million views in its first three days.

Co-starring Cameron Diaz, Back In Action is the most successful English-language film released on the streaming giant since The Adam Project, which premiered in March 2022.

The synopsis reads: “Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown.”

Other members of the cast include Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, and Jamie Demetriou.

After starring in Any Given Sunday and Annie, Foxx who is also an executive producer of the film, was looking forward to reuniting with Diaz on film.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but after Cameron and I did Any Given Sunday and Annie together, we became friends in real life. I’ve been begging her to come play with me again,” Foxx said.

“We all know there’s just something about her…,” the Oscar winner added. He referenced Diaz’s classic film, There’s Something About Mary.

Back In Action is Foxx’s second release on Netflix over the past year. Back in December 2024, he released, What Had Happened Was, his first stand-up film in more than two decades. Throughout the special, he addressed his hospitalization.

Recorded in Atlanta, Foxx shared that he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke. “It is a mystery,” he said. “We still don’t know exactly what happened to me.”

“April 11, I was having a bad headache and I asked my boy for an aspirin,” he continued. “And I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f**k to do.”
