Janet Jackson has backpeddled her recent comments in an interview with The Guardian on Kamala Harris’ race. The “All For You” singer revealed that she assumed Harris was of white or Indian ancestry. After being informed by the reporter she is, in fact, both, Jackson doubled down on her thoughts.

However, after an onslaught of criticism, she has apologized for being “misinformed.” Jackson’s manager, Mo Elmasri said in a statement that Jackson has “deep respect for Kamala Harris’ accomplishments as a Black and Indian.” He adds, “Janet apologizes for any confusion caused and acknowledges the importance of accurate representation in public discourse.”

Janet Jackson Talks Motherhood

In the interview, Janet Jackson also discussed how motherhood changed her life. “The most important thing I’ve done, the biggest thing I’ve done, is become a mother, and it’s had a beautiful impact on my life,” she says. At almost 50, she gave birth to a son, Eissa, whom she shared with ex-husband Wissam Al Mana. The business owner’s company in Qatar is worth a reported 1,000,000,000. The former couple would split just weeks after his birth.

She claims that she initially wanted three children, but decided otherwise. “[I] thought, ‘I should stop there, that’s probably all I can handle.’ Because you have to give all of yourself, you have to spread the love, and I wouldn’t want any of them to feel left out if I had three. Obviously, you have to work, but you don’t come first any more. Your life completely changes. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
