Initially, Rock was stopped by police for reportedly trespassing and consuming alcohol in public within the Nickerson Gardens housing projects, a place significant to his upbringing. When officers failed to provide clarity on his detention, the 39-year-old artist fled his vehicle, prompting a chase that ended with his apprehension. Authorities discovered a firearm inside his car, leading to his booking for felony possession of a weapon.

In a conversation with Bootleg Kev in 2023, Rock expressed his commitment to delivering quality music, addressing fans’ impatience for new material. “The new album is great, man,” he stated. “Everybody’s like, ‘Man, what’s taking so long? It’s been five years!’ All the fans been beating me up on Instagram, but it’s just about trying to make good quality music. I’m tryna do an album like my last one where you ain’t gotta skip shit. No skips.”
Recently, Jay Rock also shared insights on his relationship with fellow artist Kendrick Lamar, particularly in response to Kendrick’s track “Heart Pt. 6,” which touched on the dynamics of their supergroup, Black Hippy, alongside ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.
