A video has surfaced online where “Paper Planes” rapper MIA talks about struggles she faced starting in the music industry. However, there was one claim that particularly caught the public’s attention. She alleged that Jay-Z suggested she get plastic surgery to help further her career. “..When I met Jay-Z and I signed to Roc Nation, the first thing he told me was to get plastic surgery.”

MIA said that she wasn’t “insecure” about her looks, and didn’t feel surgery was necessary. “So their argument of ‘MIA f*cking insecure, that’s why she needs to massage her ego,’ fails.” She continues: “Because turn around and ask those muthaf*ckers what women do you know who hasn’t had plastic surgery around you. All of them have. I’m the only one that didn’t.” MIA (real name Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam), was managed under Roc Nation in 2012. However, things had soured by 2014, and the two parted ways.

Jay Z’s Team Roc Sues Kansas City

JAY-Z‘s Team ROC company has filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, and the local government. NBC News reports that both entities failed to release police records after allegations claims of corruption and civil rights violations. Filed in partnership with the Midwest Innocence Project, the suit claims that the Kansas City Police Department has not released substantial documents that pertain to current and former law enforcement officers. In November 2023, Roc Nation submitted a records request but it went unanswered.

For decades, communities in Kansas City, Kansas — particularly minority and immigrant communities — have been subjected to an alarming pattern of abuse and other serious misconduct by the KCKPD,”  the suit read.  “Rather than promoting a culture of transparency and accountability, the KCKPD has a long history of turning a blind eye to (at best) and even covering up (if not worse) abusive and/or corrupt conduct by its officers,” the suit continued.
