In a new twist to the high-stakes legal saga involving JAY-Z, his attorney Alex Spiro flatly denied any settlement talks with Tony Buzbee—the combative lawyer best known for representing an anonymous woman who accused the rapper of rape, as well as multiple plaintiffs in unrelated sexual assault cases tied to Diddy.

Buzbee has sought to dismiss the defamation lawsuit filed by JAY-Z, who contends that both Buzbee and the anonymous plaintiff defamed him by initiating the allegations, which, it should be noted, were later retracted by the accuser. In his motion, Buzbee alleges that JAY-Z leveraged his celebrity status to exert undue pressure on the woman, leading to her decision to withdraw her case.

The court documents filed by Buzbee assert, “The relentless pressure exerted by Mr. Carter and his associates overwhelmed Doe, culminating in an agreement to settle the litigation on February 4, 2025.” This purported agreement reportedly included the voluntary dismissal of actions in the Southern District of New York. However, Spiro has firmly denied the existence of any settlement, labeling Buzbee’s statements as “a total lie.” He asserted, “He brought a false case, lost badly, and was forced to dismiss quickly. End of story.”

Buzbee alleges settlement and intimidation; JAY-Z’s team denies both

In response, Buzbee’s legal counsel refuted Spiro’s claims, stating, “Spiro’s assertion that there was no agreement is a complete fabrication. Correspondence between my office and Spiro clearly outlines the terms of the agreement.” This included the retraction of the rape lawsuit filed by Jane Doe against JAY-Z and Diddy, despite Jane Doe’s insistence that her allegations were valid.

Furthermore, Buzbee’s attorney indicated that part of their negotiations involved an assurance that JAY-Z and his team would refrain from further harassment of Jane Doe and her family. However, he alleged that mere days later, JAY-Z’s representatives violated this promise by sending individuals to intimidate the plaintiff. In light of these developments, Spiro maintains that JAY-Z would not consider settling the lawsuit or providing any financial compensation, given the serious nature of the accusations against him.

The lawsuit brought by the anonymous woman has been dismissed with prejudice, a legal term indicating it cannot be refiled, and notably, the dismissal documents did not reference any agreement between the involved parties.
