According to reports, Joe Budden shared insight into how he successfully defended himself against a lewdness charge.
The case involved accusations of attempting to invade a neighbor’s home while exposed. At the 16:30 mark in the latest Joe Budden Podcast episode, the former rapper-turned-podcaster addressed his recent hiatus. He explained the lewdness charge he faced and how it was dismissed. Budden revealed months of tension with “racist” neighbors who relentlessly complained about trivial matters.
On December 4, footage revealed Budden sleepwalking and attempting to enter a neighbor’s apartment, naked. The clip showed him trying the door code before heading back to his unit. Though he’s spoken openly about his sleepwalking, this is his first legal consequence tied to it. Budden stated, “These people decided to misuse some of the systems that are in place for real victims.” “They went to the police to file a report to say that Joe Budden was outside of their door masturbating and they don’t know if I was there with the intention to ‘r-word’ her and her family. So, what seemed like a simple sleepwalking medical condition turned into something much bigger. So I’ve been gone [from the podcast] for a month, ’cause I had a civil suit.”
Budden Challenges Civil Suit Allegations, Laughs Through Trial Drama
He recalled how, on the trial’s opening day, his “Karen” neighbor took the stand and instantly broke down in what he called “white girl tears.”
The civil suit, he said, accused him of stalking and indecent conduct—an offense, he argued, that only applies if the person is unclothed with the intent to “sexually gratify” themselves. He said, “She lied on that paperwork to say he was masturbating on my door, as if I can’t find a million better places to masturbate than that.” “My lawyer asked her if she thought that I was fully erected in the video. She said, ‘Yes.’ … So that was a big point of contention during this civil trial. He touched his penis in this video, so was he masturbating? She says, ‘Yes.’”
He briefly thought about involving his doctor, though it would have prolonged the trial. Opting for his girlfriend, she confirmed he wasn’t fully erect. The admission set off laughter from his co-hosts, prompting Budden to call her, laughing along. “Was he flaccid?” asked the judge to his girlfriend, who replied, “Absolutely not!” Budden then joked, “I’m a grower, not a show-er.”
The rapper turned podcaster later expressed gratitude toward the judge for maintaining fairness throughout the trial.
