John Legend released the 20th anniversary of his classic debut album, Get Lifted, on November 22 with the removal of the Diddy reference on the singer’s debut single “Used To Love U.”

The original 2005 cut featured a line that referenced the controversial mogul alongside other music executives such as Birdman and Jay-Z. In the new version featuring Black Thought, produced by 9th Wonder, Diddy’s name is removed. The removal marks the second artist to do so after Kesha removed the mogul’s name in her hit song “Tik Tok.” Diddy faces federal sexual assault and sex trafficking charges. The mogul was arrested in September and has been detained in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, with a scheduled trial set to begin in May 2025.

Diddy has been denied bail three times. While detained, he faces over a dozen sexual assault lawsuits. The mogul entered a “not guilty” plea upon arraignment.

In June, Legend expressed his disapproval of Diddy’s actions in the surfaced surveillance footage of the mogul assaulting then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a hotel hallway. Legend said he was “horrified” by the footage and told the press to “believe women.”

John Legend’s 20th-anniversary debut album includes bonus material such as live sessions to popular tracks and remixes featuring Lauryn Hill, Killer Mike, Lil Wayne, and Tems. Get Lifted remains one of Legend’s best works from his 10-album catalog.

John Legend is on a Christmas tour. He and his family secured a Grammy nomination for the artist’s latest album, My Favorite Dream, a children’s album. The album was inspired by the singer’s family, which includes his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and four children.

Diddy was named in a re-filed lawsuit with Jay-Z over the weekend. The moguls are accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000 at an MTV VMA After-Party. Jay-Z immediately denied the claims with a statement, calling the lawsuit an “extortion attempt.”
