The mother of John Singleton’s son, Tosha Lewis, did not take a liking to the tribute BET gave Singleton during the 2019 BET Awards.

Lewis took to her Facebook, in a now deleted post, calling out BET for what she felt like was an incomparable tribute to award-winning director John Singleton compared to Nupsey Hussle’s. In the post she stated, “So BET can take the time to honor Nipsey Hussle and not John Singleton?” she wrote. “They’re whole movie lineup are John Singleton movies. His movies are in the BET commercial. They never featured anything Nipsey, but I guess he’s trending nevermind John was talking and doing the same stuff as Nipsey in the 90’s.”

According to reports, Lewis also claims that Singleton’s family was not invited to the show, as Nipsey’s family was.

Dispute how Tosha Lewis feels, John’s family spoke to TMZ and stated they have a total opposite outlook. Singleton’s mom, Shelia Ward, would like to be exempt from backlash or criticism regarding Lewis comments, as she doesn’t share the same feelings towards the tribute. TMZ also learned that John’s 26 year old daughter Justice, was in fact invited to the awards- dispute what Lewis stated.
