Jordin Sparks is the latest celebrity to show her support for Chris Brown. The singer was suppose to perform a tribute to Michael Jackson at the 2022 American Music Awards but he claimed it was scrapped for reasons unknown.
On Tuesday (Nov. 22), TMZ caught up with Sparks in New York City and asked her about the controversy. “You love asking me about Chris, but we love Chris,” the “American Idol” season six winner said. “He should’ve been there.”
The controversy escalated over the weekend when Brown won Favorite Male R&B Artist at the award show but was absent. Kelly Rowland had to defend him on stage while accepting the award on his behalf when the crowd booed him. She told the crowd to “quiet down” before she praised him as “an incredible performer.” Over the years there has been so much backlash regarding the “Under The Influence” hitmaker, including him beating his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
When TMZ asked her if people should move on from that altercation, Sparks responded with, “Honestly, I think that shouldn’t even be a conversation anymore. It’s about his talent. They shouldn’t have cancelled the performance. That’s how I feel about it.”
The “No Air” singer continued, “People deserve to be able to grow, and learn and be able to live their life without things hanging over them. Everybody deserves that. Him especially.”
On Monday (Nov. 21), TMZ also caught Rowland outside and she doubled down on her support for Brown. “I believe that grace is very real, and we all need a dose of it. “Before we point fingers at anybody, we should realize how grateful we are for every moment that we get, even for our own things that we have.” The Destiny’s Child alum said.
“I just think it’s important to remember to be human. We are humans,” she added.
