JT recently performed on Rolling Loud’s stage for the first time as a solo artist. The City Cinderella rapper has been on a long journey, and she appeared overcome with emotion as the crowd chanted her singles, such as “Okay” and “No Bars.” But the Miami native didn’t let her feelings get in the way of the electric performance she had in store for the crowd.
City Cinderella is JT’s (real name Jatavia Johnson) debut solo mixtape. Released on July 19, the 16-track project explores the former City Girl’s early life and meteoric rise to fame. The mixtape features guest appearances from DJ Khaled, Stunna Girl, Clip, and Jeezy. “Okay,” “No Bars,” and “Sideways” are its most popular singles.
From City Girls To City Cinderella
In 2017, the City Girls took the world by storm with raunchy lyrics and a fiery Miami flavor almost reminiscent of Trina. However, after seven years, one mixtape, and three studio albums, their reign in the rap game has ended. In recent interviews, both Yung Miami and JT have opened up about what they believe led to the separation. In August, JT revealed to Complex that the breakup was a mutual decision. The “Okay” rapper said, “It just made sense for us, and it was no hard feelings.”
Despite embarking on a solo career, JT says she’ll always be a City Girl: “I’m like Tina Turner, I’m still a City Girl. I need my name. That’s the biggest thing about me; I can’t ever get away from being a City Girl.” JT adds, “But I feel like it just made so much sense for both of us in the direction that we was going and things that we were focusing on. It wasn’t no hard feelings about it; we saw it coming.”
