Kanye West is set to return to Mexico City for the first time in 17 years, and the anticipation surrounding his comeback has translated into record-breaking attendance numbers. While his public image and career have faced significant turbulence in recent years, the response to his upcoming shows proves his international pull remains enormous. Scheduled for January 30 and 31 at Plaza de Toros “La México,” the performances are expected to draw a combined 74,000 people, according to AllHipHop.

That turnout surpasses the venue’s previous attendance milestone set in November 2019, when Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev played an exhibition match that brought in 42,517 fans, per ESPN. Even with that achievement already eclipsed, the second show still has tickets available, suggesting attendance could rise even further. West hasn’t performed in the city since October 2008 during his Glow in the Dark Tour, when he appeared at Palacio de los Deportes. His long absence has only added to the excitement among fans eager to see him live again.

This isn’t the first time Ye has drawn massive international crowds recently. Just months ago, he filled Shanghai Stadium with 70,000 attendees. The organizers of the Mexico City shows believe this event will be just as significant. Andrés Charvel, CEO of 515 Entertainment, described the overwhelming response by saying: “The response has been extraordinary. Breaking the venue’s historic record demonstrates the powerful connection audiences have with such an iconic figure, and the demand shows that fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Together with the venue, our production team, and the artist’s team, we are working to execute something the world has never seen before.”

These victories in ticket sales come shortly after West faced backlash in Brazil, where he was banned from performing in São Paulo. His November 29 show at Interlagos Racetrack was canceled after he spread Nazism and anti-Semitism, with authorities noting he could have been arrested if he performed hateful content. Even so, his return to Mexico City appears poised to be one of his most successful live events in years.
