Keke Palmer is speaking out against the double standards women face when it comes to dating men who earn less money.
During a recent appearance on Bevy Smith’s Radio Andy show, the actress and singer candidly addressed societal expectations around income in relationships, emphasizing that love and respect matter far more than matching bank accounts.
Palmer pointed to the cultural acceptance of powerful men dating women with fewer resources, asking why the reverse is so often scrutinized. “Nobody cares if a man finds his woman under a bridge,” she said. “Why do we have to deal with that?”
Citing Oprah Winfrey and her longtime partner Stedman Graham as a high-profile example, Palmer argued that successful women should not be judged for choosing partners who earn less. “Let me tell you something that Keke don’t need,” she added. “Money… from nobody.”
The actress, who became a millionaire at a young age, noted that money has never been the driving force in her personal relationships. Instead, she says, it’s about how she is treated. “It’s about love, it’s about respect,” Palmer explained, reiterating a lesson from her father that the most important thing a partner can offer is kindness and care.
